This day was blessed with a light drizzle of rain in the early morning prior to the start of the festivities \u2013 a refreshing and welcoming beginning to an auspicious day! The energetic Lion Dance troupe set things in motion, welcoming the arrival of guests and ushering in the joyous mood before the first segment of the day\u2019s celebration commenced; the Ribbon-cutting Ceremony at the entrance of the new building.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-49420\" src=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-01.jpg 500w, http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-01-200x134.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Ribbon-cutting Ceremony<\/h2>\n<p>The Guest-of-Honour was Venerable Seck Kwang Phing, President of the Singapore Buddhist Federation joined by the entourage \u2013 Venerable Hui Siong, Secretary General of the World Buddhist Sangha; Venerable Yuan Ching, Religious Advisor; Venerable Hong Zhen, Abbot of Fa Yin Temple (United States of America); Venerable Xin Li, Abbot of Ji Le Temple (Taiwan); Venerable N. Sumana Thero, Secretary-General (SBF); Venerable Fa Ming, Religious Advisor and Venerable Guo Hui. Together, they presided over the ceremony with Venerable Yuan Ching, PBSS President &#8211; Mr Johnny Lye and Vice-Presidents &#8211; Mr Ng Hoo Seng and Mr Lim Chiang How, Mr See Kok Eng and Mr Low Chui Heng before proceeding to the Main Hall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-49401\" src=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening02.jpg 333w, http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening02-133x200.jpg 133w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Unveiling and Consecration of the Big Buddha<\/h2>\n<p>The Buddha statue in the hall was unveiled by Mr Lye, Mr Ng and Mr Lim, followed by the consecration led by Venerable Kwang Phing, Venerable Hui Siong, Venerable Yuan Ching, Venerable Hong Zhen and Venerable Xin Li, together with invited Venerables and Bhikkhunis.<\/p>\n<p>This was followed by chantings by the Sangha \u2013 from both the Theravada tradition (\u5357\u4f20\u6cd5\u5e08\u8bf5\u7ecf\u7948\u798f) led by Venerable Sumana and Venerable Fa Ming, and Tibetan tradition (\u85cf\u4f20\u6cd5\u5e08\u8bf5\u7ecf\u7948\u798f) led by Khenpo Orgyen Nyingma before the Offering to the Buddha (\u4f9b\u4f5b).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-49422\" src=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-04.jpg 313w, http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-04-200x197.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Light Offering and Transference<\/h2>\n<p>After these ceremonies, the hall lights were dimmed, setting the stage for the Light Offering Procession \u2013 beautiful synchronised offering of lights by representatives from PBSS flanking the sides of the hall with lotus candle lights; a choreography by Singapore\u2019s renowned choreographer Mdm Goh Lay Kuan. This is a significant moment representing not only the light offering to the Buddha, but also the transference of light; the unceasing and boundless illumination and transference of the Buddha Dharma.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-49423\" src=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-06.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-06.jpg 511w, http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-06-113x200.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2>Living the Buddha Dharma Mission<\/h2>\n<p>The Opening Speeches delivered by Mr Lye (in Chinese) and Mr Ng (in English) were heartening recollections of PBSS&#8217;s compelling journey, from the initial set-up of its first premises to the present-day 8-storey building. In addition, it was exceptionally meaningful to have Venerable Kwang Phing to officiate the opening ceremony where in his Opening Address, he shared his experience as one of the young undergraduates who helped start PBSS. Venerable Yuan Ching also urged PBSS to continue its Buddha Dharma mission and to benefit the Buddhist community through outreach and education. Lastly, PBSS extended its gratitude to all who has helped in ways they could, like architect Mr Teo Kim Swa and his project team who helped with the conceptualisation, re-building and interior design of the new building.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-49424\" src=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-05.jpg 500w, http:\/\/dazhong.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/opening-en-05-200x97.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the closing segment of the ceremony after the Plaque Unveiling Ceremony, tokens of appreciation were presented to the Venerables and individuals who made the construction of the new building a great success.
